Twin Brace Barn
30 X 40 feet | Circa 1850 | Greenwich, NY
Wind braces are diagonal frame members that are mortised into the posts and the horizontals in a timber frame. The purpose of bracing is to make the structure rigid to stand up against the winds of time. This frame is the first that we have found with double braces one over the other! The two interior bents have twin braces, making this oak and chestnut hardwood frame exceptionally strong. The braces also add a great deal of aesthetic interest to the interior. Although the original roof boards are no longer with the frame, we can provide boards from the same era if desired. The barn is disassembled, labeled, and ready for washing and restoration at our shop. We can't wait to re-erect this structure!

Possibilities:
This barn would make a wonderful home, great room, or garage. It had an original room framed into one corner with mortise and tenon studs, which is rare in barns of this vintage. This room could be framed back in, with the potential for a loft on top. There was originally a loft in the center bay, giving the possibility of a split level second floor and lots of living space.
