Taftsville Barn
18'6.5" X 23'.5" | Circa 1850 | Taftsville, Vermont
This barn hales from Taftsville, Vermont. In its first life, it was an addition on an early house. The house was demolished, but we are very glad this part of the structure was saved! The frame is a combination of hewn and sawn timbers. This tells us that the barn was built after water powered sawmills were operating in the area. We love all the wind braces! It is unusual to have braces at mid-height instead of at the top. Each of the gable bents has eight braces! The tall profile of this structure provides for plenty of headroom for a partial or full second floor. The Taftsville Barn is currently erected on temporary sills at our shop. We welcome you to come see the structure standing.

Possibilities:
We absolutely love the idea of this structure being used as a cabin in the woods or as a complete small home with an addition off one eave! It has lots of character and lots of height for living space. Or, this barn would make a great animal space. The loft would hold lots of hay if used in this way. It could also make a lovely art or writing studio.
