Chestertown NY Early Barn

30 X 40 feet | circa 1820' | Chestertown, NY

This frame is an exceptionally well crafted classic English frame. When we found it, it was tucked into the forest that has grown up around it. The structure is a mix of hardwood and softwood beams, with many of the posts being maple. It has a 12 foot loft built into the original design, though the loft  may need to be raised a foot to give modern headroom underneath. The rafter system is beautiful with a traditional queen system supporting the rafters at mid-span. Part of the big story on this frame are the roof and siding boards- wide and gorgeous!

Details:

  • 1,200 square feet on the main floor, with another 360 feet of loft space

  • Hewn maple posts

  • Hewn pine top plates

  • Half round pine rafters

  • 23'6" post bottoms to peak

  • Beautiful wide roof boards

  • Siding boards with beautiful patina range from 10 to 18 inches wide are available to go with the frame

  • Restored frame, erected on your foundation, with original roof boards applied.
