TESTIMONIALS
“Green Mountain Timber Frames moved an old timber-framed country store to my location in Georgia and erected the building on my property. Their attention to detail was truly amazing. I could not give them enough praise for their attention to detail and expert work. I am a very detailed person in my line of work and they exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Green Mountain for moving and restoring old timber frames. I have been very pleased with my new old timber frame home.”

“I will never forget the week watching Luke, Matt, Isaac, and John raise our newly restored timber frame workshop. Their conscientious workmanship and reverence for historic preservation distinctly honors the craftsmen who built it over 200 years ago. I am so grateful for this crew and the gorgeous hand-hewn frame that they’ve restored for us—the new headquarters of our publication. All our articles will be edited here, our instructional videos will be filmed here, and in this place woodworking classes will happen. We will make many memories within these walls. Green Mountain Timber Frames is a crew of incredible and down-to-earth people. I left inspired by the experience and I cannot commend them highly enough.”

“Luke and his crew built a timber frame boathouse for our family in 2015. Unlike GMTF's usual body of work, this project was new construction using hemlock and oak harvested from the site. From our rough pencil sketch drawing Luke developed the frame design, gave us a cut list for the sawyer and saw the project through to the end. Luke's communication was excellent, the work was timely and the pictures tell the rest of the story. This is some incredible joinery! Thank you GMTF!”

“Thank you so much for the caring removal of the 1840's ell on our home. We are still so amazed that the work was done so quickly! Thank you for sharing information on the way our post and beam addition had been constructed. Our shadow box of various pieces of the ell will have a place of honor in the new addition, too. Thank you for your caring, professional work on our home.”

“If you are looking for top notch craftsmanship and attention to detail, we recommend Green Mountain Timber Frames without hesitation. Dan McKeen is a true professional. We couldn't have imagined anyone better for our project as it was fairly complex consisting of two antique timber frames. The construction process was extraordinarily well managed and Dan did a great job communicating with us and sending photos as we were not able to visit the site often. Dan is a responsible, solutions-oriented individual who is budget conscious and respectful of deadlines. As a final testament to the experience we had with Dan and the crew at Green Mountain Timber Frames, we hired them again. They recently restored another historic barn frame and erected it on our site as a tractor barn.”

“Thank you for the magnificent and moving accomplishment of rescuing, restoring, and transporting the historic North Hero island barn to Essex for its preservation and reincarnation on Lake Champlain! You, John, Lucas, Dylan, and Dan have surpassed our loftiest expectations in the dedication and mastery that you brought to every detail of the transformation of this extraordinary example of early American architecture and craftsmanship. You have deeply honored its original inspired creators, and you have contributed generously to the fulfillment and joyfulness of our lives, and to the lives of all the future generations who will live within those beautiful walls and be uplifted by the integrity, masterful artistry, and serenity that you have restored to the structure. With everlasting gratitude and warmest regards, from your friend.”

“Our experience with GMTF and Dan McKeen could not have been better. Our barn is beautiful and the envy of all who visit, and Dan was a master timber frame builder who cared more about the construction quality and authenticity than we did. He can be trusted to do the right thing and to be true to his word. His crew was full of real craftsmen and decent guys all who cared about the quality of their work and client satisfaction. Our house project was a pleasure, on time and below budget! I encourage anyone considering using Dan to visit our home to see for yourself. BTW, Dan stays committed to his work and five years later still stops by to check that all is fine and fixes any issues.”

“People thought we were crazy when we mentioned we were building a house nearly 1200 miles away in the Green Mountains of Vermont. We had undertaken other construction projects, which were always rife with complications and required hands-on involvement. The difference this time was Dan McKeen and his crew at Green Mountain Timber Frames.
It only took one day getting to know Dan to grasp that we were in good hands. He built us a terrific New England-style, energy efficient home, employing local, master carpenters and artisans who treated the house as their own. Our timbers came from reclaimed wood from the stage at the Rutland County Fairgrounds. The timbers offer a good story and make our home warm and inviting.
We experienced no hiccups or required any repairs, and most significantly we came in on budget. There were no surprises. We were almost sad when the project finished on time as we enjoyed the folks at Green Mountain Timber Frames, all of whom we still consider friends. Building with Dan McKeen is certain to bring you a gorgeous finished product and is also sure to bring you positive memories.”

“I was amazed when the decaying, manure-filled building, long abandoned in a farm field, was resurrected as a graceful, clean, sturdy barn that is the focal point of our property. Dan and his artisan builders could see beyond the disrepair to preserve the history and beauty of our barn. What was once a sheep barn and later a dairy barn, is now a working barn again on our small farm.”

“Working with Dan and his crew at Green Mountain Timber Frames was an incredibly positive experience. Besides being knowledgeable, professional and courteous, Dan and his team have an intangible that for lack of a better term I'll call "soul". They share a passion for timber frames that is infectious. It was inspirational to witness the care, respect and dedication they put into the restoration of our frame. We are completely satisfied with the project and recommend GMTF without reservation.”

“The Hepburn family is so glad that one of our family homes was saved, thanks to Dan. Circumstances did not allow us to keep this old family friend. Had we any idea that it’s future in Tinmouth was in peril, we would have tried to save it ourselves. I will miss it’s presence on The Hill on 25 Pucker Street in Tinmouth but glad that will be resurected somewhere. It’s builder, Captain Miles, had a room named after him by my uncle Frederick Hepburn. I helped him furnish that room. I will have my memories of the grand old house but haven’t been able to visit it’s original sight yet now that’s gone. I have photos of every room to remember it by as well as distant ancestors there. Thank you Dan.”
